We are looking for a full time Veterinary Surgeon to join our wonderful team here at White Cross Vets, Kings Heath.
Our full-time team members work 40 hours per week, over 4 days plus inclusion in the Saturday Rota. There is no requirement for out of hours. The role is a mixture of operating (30%) and consulting (70%), the team work a 4 day-week, but a 5-day week can also be accommodated. Shifts are either a consulting shift or an operating shift, which are balanced evenly across the team over a month.
The current Saturday rota is 1 in 5 with TOIL given back in the working week for Saturday hours.
We try to make sure all our vet team have an equal split of consulting and operating sessions each month. Consultations are on average 15 minutes, but we also offer longer appointments for emergencies that may require extra time. Rota's are prepared 6-8 weeks in advance.
Most of our vets work 40 hours per week, over 4 days, so they get one full day off during the week, which we try to make sure is the same day each week. Our vets currently work one Saturday out of six from 8:30 until 12:30.
We are a large friendly team made up of 1 practice director, 6 VS's, 1 Head RVN, 10 RVNs, 3 VCAs, 1 practice manager, and 5 CCC's. We also have certificate holders within the practice: 2 internal medicine and one 1 surgery. One of the vets is currently in the process of obtaining a certificate in feline medicine.
We love to encourage those who are looking to learn and develop their skills. Outside of work we have regular practice socials and hold once a month wellbeing afternoon, where the team come together. Previous afternoons have included practice olympics, jigsaw puzzles, video games and painting.
We also have regular individual team and whole practice meetings. This is also followed up with a weekly team newsletter so that all staff are aware of what is happening in the practice.
The practice is based in Kings Heath in Birmingham, a short distance from Birmingham city centre. Kings Heath and Moseley village (2 minutes away) are both full of independent restaurants and some very nice bars and pubs! There are buses every 5-10 minutes that pass the practice, and the closest train station is around a 10-minute drive away in Kings Norton. From Autumn 2025, there will be a direct train from Birmingham city centre to Kings Heath.
Within the practice, we have in-house laboratory services, a large prep and theatre area and diagnostics including x-ray (standing and dental), endoscopy and ultrasound.
We have a large waiting area, with separate areas for cats, dogs and rabbits, as well as a screened-off area for anxious or reactive dogs.
The senior team are happy to support further professional development.
"Working at White Cross Vets Kings Heath is a great place to work; we are a supportive and friendly team who hold our patient care as a priority and strive to improve. We are a large team, with a busy caseload and so to balance this we love to take time out from the busy day during our wellbeing sessions to spend time together and enjoy a laugh. We are also partial to the odd jigsaw and slice of cake!" – Emily Moss, Clinical Director
