A veterinary practice in Bedford is seeking a part-time Veterinary Surgeon to join their supportive team. You will provide consultations and surgical procedures for a variety of patients, with a focus on exceptional patient care. The role includes flexible hours and a great work-life balance, offering professional development opportunities and a competitive salary up to £63,000 DOE FTE.
At Boness Veterinary Hospital, we’re looking for a dedicated and confident Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly, experienced team. Whether you’re seeking a consulting-only role or ready to take on a new challenge, this is a fantastic opportunity to work in a forward-thinking environment where teamwork, learning, and exceptional patient care always come first.
Our practice includes a modern, purpose-built hospital in Barton-Le-Clay and a local branch nearby, so you’ll spend time across both sites. The hospital features a spacious reception area with separate cat and dog waiting zones, four consulting rooms (including one dedicated to nurse consultations), a fully equipped prep and theatre area, dental suite, X-ray room, lab, dispensary, and a small cattery with separate kennels. There’s also a dedicated vet office for quiet admin time and a comfortable staff kitchen and break room - always stocked with plenty of refreshments and a well-filled biscuit tin.
We treat a wide variety of patients, from cats and dogs to rabbits, small furries, and the occasional chicken or exotic pet. As the local go-to practice, we also see wildlife brought in by the community, including birds of prey. Your day-to-day role will have a consultation focus, though if you prefer a consult-only position, we can accommodate that. Surgical procedures typically include lap spays, castrates, lump removals, and other routine operations.
As a purpose-built hospital, we’re proud to offer a wide range of equipment including digital and dental X-ray, laparoscopic kit, endoscope and bronchoscope, a new ultrasound scanner, slit lamp, tonometers, and all the multi-parameter monitors and tools you need to deliver outstanding care. We’re also continuing to invest in our facilities and will soon be adding a CT scanner to further enhance our diagnostic capabilities.
Our long-standing team includes 10 vets, 16 RVNs, seven client care team members, and a dedicated practice manager. Among us, we have certificate holders in Ophthalmology, ECC, Small Animal Medicine, Small Animal Surgery, and Endosurgery, alongside visiting specialists in Cardiology and Orthopaedics. Career development is something we take seriously - we’re always happy to support further training and certificates to help you reach your professional goals.
This is a part-time position, working 26 hours per week across Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Our weekend rota is 1 in 3 Saturday mornings (8am-1pm), with no out-of-hours commitments as we’re a host practice for Vets Now giving you a great work-life balance.
Boness Veterinary Hospital has been proudly serving the community since the 1990s, and we remain deeply involved in local life. Whether it’s supporting the local stray cat rescue, running the dog show at the annual summer fayre, or visiting schools to inspire the next generation of vets, we’re passionate about giving back and building strong community connections.
