Role Overview

Here at Academy Vets, we are looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join our team. We are a busy mixed practice in the Southwest of Scotland where the grass is green and the sun always shines. The role is truly mixed – no two days the same from dairy fertility, small animal consultation and surgery to health planning, fertility testing and horses.

Rota & Working Hours

Our rota patterns are flexible to fit your lifestyle. You work 5 days per week, 8:30 am to 6:00 pm with an hour lunch break. There is a weekend rota and we provide out of hours on a 2:10 basis, with occasional Saturday mornings. Vets receive a half day off the Friday following their weekend first‑call. Two Vets are always on call to provide backup and support if necessary.

About the Practice

A RCVS accredited farm and small animal general practice with the latest small animal and large animal ultrasound, bull and tup fertility kit, digital radiography and Idexx suite. Galloway offers outdoor activities such as paddleboarding on local beaches and walking and camping in the Southern Uplands.

Team

We have 10 Vets and two branches. Our main practice is in Stranraer with a branch in Newton Stewart. The team includes 3 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 3 Auxiliary Nurses, 5 Receptionists, and one certificate holder in Cattle Health and Production. We would be keen to support the right candidate to attain additional qualifications such as a Certificate or DBR.
