Job description

Veterinary Surgeon - Farm
Kernow Veterinary Group - Bodmin
Salary up to £65,000 DOE and relocation allowance up to £2,000
12-Month Fixed-Term Contract

At inspiring vet care, our people are at the heart of everything we do. As the UK’s number one vet care provider, we’re trusted with the care of over 2 million animals, delivering our purpose of healthier animals and happier owners.

Kernow Vets are seeking a confident Farm Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly, supportive team. We work closely with the local farming community, delivering practical, sustainable care that supports livestock health and the long‑term success of our clients’ businesses, where strong relationships matter as much as clinical skill.

The role offers a varied caseload including TB testing, routine and preventative work, herd health planning, emergency care, dispensary tasks and regular client contact, with artificial insemination, mainly cattle, also included.

You’ll work with a diverse client base, from smallholdings to larger beef, sheep and mixed farms.

This is primarily an ambulatory position, so a full driving licence is required. You’ll be fully equipped with a vehicle, mobile and laptop, with access to practice facilities when needed.

The role includes sole charge and participation in the on‑call rota, managing both planned and emergency work. A TB testing qualification is essential.

You’ll be part of an experienced farm team of vets, supported by a dedicated TB testing team, ACA, vet tech and client care colleagues, all working collaboratively in an open, supportive environment where work‑life balance is respected and time off in lieu helps keep workloads fair.

Practice Highlights
  • * Experienced farm team working closely with the local farming community
  • * Diverse client base across smallholdings, beef, sheep and mixed farms
  • * Varied caseload including TB testing, herd health planning and emergency care
  • * Artificial insemination work, mainly cattle
  • * Ambulatory role with vehicle, mobile and laptop provided
  • * Dedicated TB testing team, ACA, vet tech and client care support
  • * Supportive working environment with time off in lieu to help manage workload
How You’ll Make a Difference

As a Farm Veterinary Surgeon, you’ll work collaboratively with the wider practice team to deliver a high standard of patient and client care across a varied and rewarding livestock caseload.

You’ll continue to develop your clinical skills and interests while sharing your knowledge and experience with colleagues, contributing positively to the clinic culture of the practice. You’ll have an integral member of the farm team, delivering excellent care and setting a helpful high care delivery owe

Working Pattern
  • * 12-month fixed-term contract
  • * Full-time role of 40 hours per week, happy to consider part time applications over 30+ hours per week
  • * Four 10-hour days, 8:30am–6:30pm
  • * 1 in 4 out-of-hours rota
  • * 1 in 4 weekend rota
  • * Rota commitment reduces slightly during quieter summer months
You Might Be a Great Fit If…
