A bit about us

We're looking for a casual Veterinary Nurse to join the team at our Birmingham Animal Hospital, reporting to one of our Nursing Team Leaders.

  • Working hours : You will work ad hoc shifts during the week and at weekends at the Animal Hospital.
  • Day shifts : 8 : 00am - 3 : 30pm
  • Evening shifts : 2 : 30pm - 10 : 00pm
  • This is a casual, zero hours contract and we are unable to guarantee, nor do we expect you to work, set hours or days. As such the role both requires, and offers maximumflexibility. Work will be on a casual basis and entails filling essential gaps and additional veterinary nursing needs as a result of annual leave, sickness or increased workload.

Birmingham Animal Hospital is located in a charming rural setting amongst 70 acres of countryside, but has excellent motorway access, and is a 20 minute drive from central Birmingham. It consists of a friendly and enthusiastic team of seven Vet Surgeons, 20 RVNs and nine support staff. The management team are extremely passionate about personal growth, and the hospital itself is nice and spacious with modern facilities and equipment.

Our Veterinary Nurses are integral to the smooth running of the busy hospital. The successful candidates will carry out nursing duties for a unique variety of animal welfare cases and species, including cats, dogs and wildlife.

The hospital works directly to help animals most in need by supporting the work of the RSPCA's Inspectors, animal centres and branches, providing essential veterinary care around the clock.

  • Welfare and case work support;
  • Provide direct medical and surgical patient care;
  • Maintain up to date and accurate clinical records;
  • Dispense drugs in accordance with professional guidelines and clinic rules;
  • Maintaining a high level of clinical hygiene and biosecurity throughout the hospital;
  • Anaesthetic monitoring, perioperative nursing care and theatre practice;
  • Taking part in community engagement initiatives;
  • Undertaking continuing professional and personal development associated with the role.

  • Are a strong problem solver, with a proven ability to use their initiative.

Successful candidates for certain RSPCA roles may need to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
