Job description

Do you have previous shipping or operations planning experience?

Perhaps you’re early in your career, or maybe you’ve already built strong operational knowledge — either way, our client, a leading organisation within the maritime and port operations sector, is looking to make their next hire.
This company is known for its supportive team culture and long-standing workforce. You’ll be joining an environment where people stay because they’re valued, developed, and trusted. In this role, you’ll play a key part in planning vessel and terminal operations, with guidance always available whenever you need it.

The Role:

You will be responsible for the efficient planning of vessel and terminal operations, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and operations run smoothly.
A major part of the role includes coordinating the terminal’s operational labour force, maintaining strong communication across teams, and adapting plans in real time as required.
You’ll be working in a fast-paced environment where problem-solving, attention to detail, and clear communication are essential. You will also handle planning tasks that require accurate use of IT systems, including spreadsheets, scheduling tools, and—where needed—Terminal Operating Systems.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week), which includes participation in a weekend working rota due to the nature of port operations.

Essential Criteria:
  • Some experience in shipping, operations planning, or a similar operational role
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships at all levels
  • Proven problem-solving and negotiation abilities
  • High attention to detail and a conscientious approach
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities
  • Good IT skills, including Word and Excel
  • Awareness of financial and commercial considerations when planning operations
Desirable Criteria:
  • Experience using Terminal Operating Systems (TOS)
