Vehicle Technician / Mechanic

Contract Type: Permanent, Full‑time
Salary: £40,000 basic salary with an OTE of £46,600 plus extra £2,000 for EV qualification
Hours: Monday 8.30 am – 5.00 pm, Tuesday – Friday 8.00 am – 5.00 pm, Saturday mornings on rota (42 hours/week)

Overview

Lookers Chelmsford Volvo are recruiting a Vehicle Technician / Mechanic to join our fantastic workshop. Working alongside experienced technicians, you will carry out vehicle health checks using the latest technology, conduct vehicle services and perform any additional repairs. You will report to the Aftersales Manager, who will provide ongoing support and training opportunities, including manufacturer‑accredited schemes and Hybrid & Electric training.

Responsibilities
  • Support and provide guidance for all technicians and apprentices within the workshop
  • Carry out mechanical and electrical diagnosis using brand‑specific diagnostic machines to manufacturers' guidelines
  • Assist the service and diagnostic technicians with vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical diagnosis, using computer‑based technology
  • Liaise with the manufacturers’ technical team when guidance is required
  • Advise the customer / manufacturer of any further work required
  • Road‑test vehicles to ensure all work has been completed to Lookers standard
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a minimum NVQ Level 3 in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent, motor industry experience (brand or non‑brand), and a full and valid UK driving licence. You should be self‑motivated, able to support your team, ambitious, eager to learn, and able to maintain the highest standards for all vehicles.

Previous brand experience is desirable but not essential, as brand accreditation training will be provided. Diagnostic, MOT and EV experience is also desirable but not essential.
