  • Annual Salary: Grade 7: £32,061– £34,434

Join our team as a Mechanic Vehicle & Plant Craft Person and play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing a diverse range of Council vehicles and plant equipment. This position is integral to ensuring roadworthiness, safety, and compliance with legal standards, supporting fleet decarbonisation, and contributing to the Council’s Climate Change Action Plan.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair vehicles, plant, and equipment to statutory and internal standards.
  • Diagnose faults using both manual and computer-based systems.
  • Conduct MOT and taxi tests, roadworthiness checks, and provide breakdown recovery services.
  • Operate a variety of diagnostic and testing equipment.
  • Maintain accurate service and repair records.
  • Perform welding and fabrication of parts as needed.
  • Drive and operate a range of vehicles and plant.
  • Mentor apprentices and support less experienced staff.
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety procedures and proper use of PPE.
  • Participate in shift work and provide out-of-hours cover as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 3 or higher in motor vehicle engineering.
  • Awareness of Electric/Hybrid Vehicles (NVQ 2).
  • Manual handling training.
  • Category B driving licence.
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Category C LGV licence.
Desirable:
  • MOT tester, forklift, crane, abrasive wheel, chainsaw licences.
  • NVQ 4 or BTEC in relevant disciplines.
