About the Role

Due to company growth we are looking to appoint a Drainage Assistant to join our Edinburgh Depot. Working as part of a two‑person team you will be responsible for attending drainage related issues such as blockages, pipe clearing, cleansing and reactive callouts.

  • Location: Edinburgh
  • Hours: Monday to Friday 40 hours per week
  • Salary: £14 per hour, overtime rates.

Responsibilities
  • Operate machinery
  • Ensure all H&S requirements are followed
  • Communicate with customers about scheduled works and address any concerns.
  • Assist in identifying drainage issues including blockages, structural defects, infiltration and root ingress.
  • Operate high‑pressure water jetting equipment to clean and clear drains, sewers and pipework.
  • Remove waste materials and prevent build‑up in wastewater systems.
  • Perform routine equipment checks and maintenance to ensure readiness.
  • Support CCTV inspections to assess the condition of underground pipes and sewers.
  • Assist in emergency response situations including flooding and urgent drainage issues.
  • Learn to complete job sheets, risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) under supervision.
Requirements

  • A practical hands‑on approach and willingness to work outdoors in all conditions
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Basic computer skills and a desire to learn new software

Lanes Group will provide all training required for the role such as high‑pressure water jetting, confined space and spill response etc.
