Job summary

Daisy Chain is seeking a Van Driver to manage the day-to-day operation of the charity van, coordinating furniture collections and deliveries while ensuring the safety of staff and volunteers.

The role includes maintenance of the van, cost-effective route planning and driving outstanding customer service. A DBS check and licence verification are required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Ensure secure transport of items, secure loads and cost-effective routing.

Job description

Post Title: Van Driver
Reporting To: Megastore Manager
Location: Daisy Chain, Stockton

JOB SUMMARY

To be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Daisy Chain van including the successful organisation of large furniture collections and deliveries. The post-holder will also be responsible for ensuring the safety of staff and volunteers travelling in the van, maintenance of the van and cost effective route planning as well as driving outstanding customer service.

Please note this post will be required to undertake a basic DBS check and the successful candidates driving licence will be checked via the Driving & Vehicle Licensing Agency online service

KEY TASKS

Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with the Manager and supporting team, plan, organise and ensure the efficient movement of stock between the Megastores, Donors and Customers ensuring that this is done in a safe and timely manner.
  • Ensure the highest levels of customer service, productivity and efficiency at all stages of collection and delivery of stock.
  • Actively promote and drive Gift Aid sign ups, Gift Aid pricing and ensure all Gift Aid procedures are followed all times. Including management of paperwork and control of customer data using GDPR knowledge.
  • Actively promote and source stock donations from customers, the local community, corporate donors and seek out new donors to drive sales.
  • Manage deliveries of donations to store with support from Megastore staff and volunteers. Including, arranging stock and furniture in the warehouse and putting donations out onto the sales floor in an orderly and safe manner where heavy lifting will be involved on a regular occasion. Following all manual handling procedures.
  • Ensure regular maintenance and upkeep of the company vehicle to include a minimum daily check of oil, water, screen wash, tyre checks and lights as well as interior and exterior cleaning of the vehicle.
  • Ensure that all items being transported in the van are appropriately secured and protected to prevent damage in transit.
  • Manage routes to ensure they are as cost effective as possible.
  • Ensure the security of donations, work equipment and personal belongings on the van and the personal safety of yourself and any passengers.
  • Safely and securely open the Megastore and Distribution centre as required to allow the van schedule to be effective. This will include being a key holder, opening buildings for other staff or volunteers to enter safely.
  • Act as an ambassador for Daisy Chain when moving about the local community and with customers and volunteers.
  • Comply with Daisy Chain Driving Policy.
  • Comply with Daisy Chain Health and Safety Policies and Equal Opportunities policies.
  • Maintain daily records of mileage and provide all receipts for fuel to the Retail Manager
  • Actively participate in two way communication sharing and exchanging relevant and appropriate information with all staff and volunteers.
  • From time to time the driver may be required to take discarded items to the tip or other approved outlet.

  • Undertake any training and development deemed necessary for the pursuance of the post

Person Specification
  • Hold a current valid, full UK driving licence that has been held by the driver for a minimum of 3 years with no points or penalties. (A, I)
