A full-time permanent position as a Validation Officer has become available within the Corporate Service Support Team assisting Development Management Services. The Validation Team deliver a key function in the validation of planning applications submitted to the Council.

About the Role

A key role of the Validation Officer will be to manage the process of receipting, validating and registering planning applications, and requests for pre application advice. The postholder will be required to input, update and extract information from IT systems; collate data; maintain electronic database records and where appropriate website‑based records. They will also be required to undertake a variety of administration duties associated with a busy office environment, including overseeing email accounts; responding to telephone calls; handling incoming and outgoing correspondence.

About the Candidate

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with an NVQ level 4 or above in Business Studies or equivalent experience gained over a minimum of 4 years. The opportunity would suit someone who is methodical, has good attention to detail, a high level of computer literacy and technical ability, good communication skills and an enthusiastic and positive approach to work. Knowledge of ICT systems such as Tascomi and QGIS would be a distinct advantage.

Due to the level of contact with members of the public, both on the telephone and also via email and paper correspondence, the need to meet the desired Welsh language levels is essential.

We play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient management of the decision‑making process of the Council, including support and advice to Councillors; PA, administrative and project management support to all service areas; facilitating elections; the communications team; translation and the Welsh Language policy officer. Our key functions include:

  • Corporate Service Support: PA and Administrative support; Business support including project management and minute taking.
  • Democratic Services: Councillors; Council, Cabinet, Overview and Scrutiny Committees and Regulatory Committees.
  • Electoral Services: General and local elections; Management of electoral register.
  • Communications Team: Manage communication activities corporately; support services in campaigns and projects; deal with the press and media; develop and issue press releases; manage social media pages.
  • Translation: Documents and simultaneous translation.
  • Welsh Language Standards: Operational; Policy making; Promotion; Monitoring; Service delivery.
