Vacancy for Digital Content Manager at National Museums Scotland

31 October 2023

Edinburgh, Scotland

Full-Time

National Museums Scotland is one of the leading museum groups in Europe. With one of the largest and most diverse collections in the world, we are responsible for the acquisition, preservation, and display of Scotland’s cultural, historic, and national heritage.

Millions of local and international visitors enjoy our four museums each year. We also reach a wider audience through touring exhibitions, loans, community engagement, digital programmes, and research.

Over the last decade, we have invested over £120 million in our sites and have more than doubled our visitor numbers, with over 3 million people now visiting our museums. We have also transformed our communication and engagement strategies. In 2019, we completed our Masterplan for the National Museum of Scotland, opening three new galleries dedicated to Ancient Egypt, East Asia, and the Art of Ceramics.

We are seeking enthusiastic, passionate, honest, and service-oriented individuals to join our team.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the delivery of digital content: Develop and implement a programme of digital content to engage audiences across our digital channels, increasing interaction with the National Collection, museum sites, public programmes, campaigns, and research.
  • Content Strategy: Own and oversee the delivery of a content roadmap and calendar aligned with organisational goals and audience needs, ensuring timely delivery of diverse digital content.
  • Research and Audience Insights: Use research and insights to identify workstreams, making evidence-based decisions to produce multi-format content for various platforms.
  • Team Management: Manage a team of Content Producers and establish partnerships with external collaborators to create impactful digital content for nms.ac.uk and social media channels.
  • Collaboration: Work with colleagues across all areas of National Museums Scotland to ensure digital content is well-commissioned, developed, and delivered.
