Job summary

SSE plc is seeking a Mobile Utility Arboriculture Surveyor based near Huntly to survey overhead lines, manage vegetation encroachments, and develop tree management plans. The role requires travel to multiple depots and a commitment to safety and accuracy.

A base within commuting distance to Aberdeen, Huntly, Banff or Buchan is preferred. You will conduct vegetation surveys, produce reports, prepare work packs, and coordinate access with landowners, working with MS 365 and safety procedures

Qualifications

  • UA5.1/5.2 arboriculture certification or equivalent industry expertise.
  • Utility arboriculture knowledge with practical experience.
  • Strong organisational skills with ability to manage competing priorities and maintain accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills with customers, colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and confidence using IT systems and digital tools.
  • Proactive, safety-focused approach and ability to work independently.
  • Full, clean manual driving licence and willingness to travel across the network area.

Responsibilities

  • Support ENATS 43-08 maintenance activities and ET R132 resilience programmes.
  • Conduct comprehensive vegetation encroachment surveys across the overhead power line network.
  • Produce accurate reports and maintain detailed documentation of survey findings.
  • Prepare work packs and supporting documentation for operational teams.
  • Coordinate and negotiate access and consents with landowners and third-party stakeholders.

Base Location

This role is mobile and predominantly field based, however we require your base 'home' location to be within commuting distance to one of our SSEN Depots in Aberdeen, Huntly, Banff or Buchan.

Salary

£36,139 - £43,188 + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern

Permanent | Full Time

- Up to £4,442 for overtime payments & up to £3,820 for standby payments, giving you a potential of £8,262 extra (subject to qualifications).

- Full PPE and tools required for the position.

The role

As a Utility Arboriculture Surveyor, you’ll play a key role in surveying the overhead power line network, identifying vegetation encroachments, and developing tree management solutions that maintain network safety, reliability, and compliance with company procedures.

You will
  • Support ENATS 43-08 maintenance activities, deliver ETR132 resilience programmes, and respond to a range of network-related enquiries.
  • Conduct comprehensive vegetation encroachment surveys across the overhead power line network.
  • Produce accurate reports and maintain detailed documentation of survey findings.
  • Prepare work packs and supporting documentation for operational teams to carry out planned activities.
  • Coordinate and negotiate access and consents with landowners and other third-party stakeholders.
You have
  • Utility arboriculture knowledge and practical experience, including UA5.1/5.2 certification or equivalent industry expertise.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and maintain a high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with customers, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications and confidence using a range of IT systems and digital tools.
  • A proactive, safety-focused approach, with the ability to work independently and use initiative to achieve positive outcomes.

A full, clean manual driving licence and willingness to travel across the network area as required.
