We’re looking for an experienced Grounds Maintenance Supervisor to join our Utilities (Sub Water) contract team in West Sussex. In this key role, you’ll support the Contract Manager in delivering safe, high-quality grounds and arboriculture services across multiple water utility sites. You’ll oversee and coordinate Field Teams, conduct regular site audits, and ensure all work meets our health, safety, and environmental standards.

This is a dynamic, client-facing role, ideal for someone who thrives on variety, problem-solving, and leading teams across a wide geographical area. You’ll work reactively and proactively, balancing planned maintenance with fast-moving operational priorities. While you may assist hands‑on when needed, your main focus will be supervision, coordination, and performance management.

What you’ll be responsible for:

  • Support the Contract Manager in delivering a high-quality grounds maintenance service.
  • Conduct site audits and inspections, ensuring compliance with RAMS, permits, and company HSEQ standards.
  • Monitor and maintain the quality of grounds and tree works to meet contract specifications.
  • Coordinate field teams, vehicles, and equipment to ensure efficient delivery.
  • Plan and schedule PPM and additional works, ensuring deadlines and standards are met.
  • Operate grounds maintenance machinery and complete small ad‑hoc or emergency works.
  • Report site issues promptly and follow through on resolutions.
  • Train and monitor field team performance to maintain compliance and productivity.
  • Support client meetings and communicate effectively across teams.
  • Promote sustainability and best practices in all activities.

What you’ll bring:

  • Proven experience as a Grounds Maintenance Supervisor or Team Leader.
  • Strong background in landscaping, horticulture, or grounds maintenance.
  • Good organisational and time‑management abilities.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety, PPE, and COSHH.
  • Flexibility to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Utility or water industry experience.
  • PA1/PA6 qualifications and/or CSCS card.

Desirable:

  • CSCS Card and/or EUSR Water Hygiene certification
  • Experience working within utilities or large‑scale contracts
