Role Overview

Thirteen Group is on the lookout for a Utilities Manager to join our Environmental Sustainability team at Hudson Quay, Middlesbrough. This role will further develop and manage Thirteens utilities management approach and drive the delivery of energy efficiency systems, implementing solutions to reduce carbon from utility use within our assets. This is a roam role, so you’ll work mainly from home and at least one day a week from our fantastic office at Hudson Quay in Middlesbrough. We’ll need you to be flexible around business and team need, so you may need to come into the office more frequently when required.

Key Responsibilities
  • You’ll lead the further development of a comprehensive utility management strategy, focusing on data collection, monitoring, and spotting efficiency opportunities across the organisation.
  • You will be collaborating with teams to build effective processes for utility management, providing guidance to managers on energy-efficient practices in their areas.
  • You’ll be expected to identify and implement approaches that reduce energy use and carbon footprint, while encouraging behaviour changes throughout the organisation.
  • You’ll be overseeing group-wide utility contracts to ensure great value and lower emissions, plus control energy budgets through smart monitoring and procurement.
  • You will need to stay on top of utility regulations, like Heat Network Regulations, and put processes in place to keep the organisation compliant.
  • You’ll offer strategic insights on utilities and sustainability to shape business plans, while coaching your team to deliver top utility services.
About You
  • You should hold an HNC in energy management, building technology, or environmental technology, or bring equivalent practical experience to the table.
  • You’ll need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle during working hours.
  • You should be able to demonstrate a strong track record of contributing to policy development and strategic planning processes.
  • You will possess in-depth knowledge of business utility management, electrical and mechanical systems, and utility provider processes, plus a solid grasp of energy emission legislation and climate change implications.
  • You’ll be confident gathering and managing data from multiple sources to spot trends, and excel at analysing complex datasets to deliver actionable insights.
  • You should be able to show strong influencing and negotiation skills with stakeholders, customers, and staff, while being adept at creating and delivering presentations and reports.
