Job Description

At this level, you will be expected to:

  • Support the planning and delivery of user research across digital projects, using a range of methods with guidance from senior researchers.
  • Learn and apply the Government Digital Service (GDS) design principles and similar standards used in the UK public sector, with access to training and mentoring.
  • Carry out user research activities such as interviews, usability testing, surveys, and desk research, under appropriate supervision.
  • Help teams understand the diversity of users by supporting inclusive research practices, advocating for accessibility, and considering the needs of different user groups.
  • Assist in analysing research data to identify patterns, user needs, and pain points.
  • Present research findings in a clear and engaging way, tailored to different audiences.
  • Build rapport with users and work collaboratively with product managers, designers, developers, and other team members.
  • Develop an understanding of user‑centred design and agile ways of working, and learn how to apply them in delivery teams.
  • Show curiosity, empathy, and a willingness to learn and grow as a User Researcher.

This is a role designed to help you grow into a confident and independent User Researcher. You will be supported through:

  • A dedicated training budget for formal courses
  • Structured mentoring and shadowing with experienced Senior User Researchers.

Qualifications
  • Around 1–2 years of experience in user research, social or academic research, or a related discipline with transferable skills.
  • Some practical experience of conducting qualitative and/or quantitative methods (e.g. usability testing, interviews, surveys, desk research).
  • Full right to work in the UK.
  • Eligible for Security Clearance.
  • Work to a Hybrid working model.
