A leading healthcare provider in London seeks an enthusiastic Urologist to join their team. The role involves providing prostate cancer diagnostics and robotic surgery, with a strong emphasis on teaching within the undergraduate curriculum. The ideal candidate will have an interest in prostate diagnostics, registration for consulting practice in the UK, and flexibility to meet service needs. This role offers a vibrant environment focused on education and innovation.
The appointee will join a team of Urologists at Croydon University Hospital and St George's Hospital to provide prostate cancer diagnostics and robotic surgery. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic and forward thinking Surgeon and will help to create an enhanced network for Urology patients. The candidate will be able to demonstrate an interest in prostate diagnostics and surgery during their previous work or training and have a vision to provide network services in the future.
All consultants are expected to be committed to teaching and to play their part in the delivery of the undergraduate curriculum. These activities include the planning and review of teaching and the assessment of students, which could include ward rounds and outpatient clinics where properly structured. Where teaching commitments cannot be specifically identified in job plans, the general requirement for teaching time should be made clear. The need for flexibility is acknowledged by the Trust, and within a service department it is possible that the overall teaching commitment is unevenly allocated between staff to achieve optimal teaching and service quality.
Croydon Health Services NHS Trust provides hospital and community services from multiple clinics in Croydon. The Trust was formed on 1 August 2010 through the integration of Croydon Community Health Services and Mayday Healthcare NHS Trust. Around 4,100 staff provide services for a population of over 360,000 people who are diverse in ethnicity. Our main hospital site, Croydon University Hospital, is one of the busiest in London. We also provide care outside hospitals at clinics, specialist centres and in people’s homes, with district nursing teams, Allied Health Professionals and community matrons looking after people of all ages and our Children’s Hospital at Home caring for children with long-term conditions without hospital visits.
Around the NHS, we are focused on meeting growing demand by empowering staff, encouraging innovation and transforming our services to deliver quality care. Croydon Health Services prioritises education and training, offering access to core skills training and professional development.
The appointee will join a team of Urologists at Croydon University Hospital (CUH) and St George’s Hospital to provide both elective and emergency care. The appointee will deliver 6 programmed activities (PAs) at CUH and 4 PAs at SGH, including on-site on-call commitments. The appointee will provide core urology and prostate diagnostic services at CUH and deliver robotic prostate surgery, while participating in the on-call rota at SGH. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, forward-thinking surgeon and will help to create an enhanced network for Urology patients.
It is expected that the appointee will undertake a minimum of 8.5 programmed activities for Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 1.5 programmed activities for Supporting Activities (SPA). Normally these activities are carried out on site, though there may be negotiability regarding the supporting activities. On-call commitments will be undertaken at St George’s Hospital, as part of a consultant-of-the-week arrangement. On-call is 1:12 and supported by an on-site SHO/SpR. The consultant will be expected to perform daily ward rounds and review acute admissions in line with Emergency Standards. Elective work is cancelled during on-call periods.
