We are excited to offer an opportunity for a Consultant Urological Surgeon based at Southend University Hospital, part of our dynamic and forward‑thinking Urology service. You’ll be joining a department that has recently redesigned its pathways to deliver outstanding patient care across three sites under a single clinical and management structure.

What we Offer

• Emergency lithotripter service and combined Southend/Broomfield rota
• Advanced BPH treatments: HoLEP, TURIS TURP, Rezum, UroLift, PAE
• Comprehensive haematuria clinics and prostate diagnostics, including local anaesthetic transperineal biopsies

Main Duties

• To provide outpatient urology clinic services; this may include minor procedures
• To perform independent elective and emergency operating including day case surgery
• To undertake speciality clinics and participate as a core member in Urology MDTs
• Any responsibility which relates to a special interest
• Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff including the observance of local employment and human resource policies and procedures
• To provide consultant level Urology on call duties (1 in 11). This will include on site daytime cover and post take ward round, and to contribute to the pelvic urology on call rota

On‑call

On‑call is 1:11 prospective, supported by 24/7 middle‑grade cover and a separate pelvic oncology rota. Our consultant‑of‑the‑week system ensures elective work pauses during on‑call weeks for better work‑life balance.
