Urology Consultant

The Department of Urology at University College Hospital is looking to recruit a highly motivated and dedicated consultant to work in the Functional, Reconstruction and Adolescent Urology team alongside the Robotic Uro-oncology service.

The successful candidate will have dual expertise in both functional reconstructive urology and robotic pelvic surgery. This is exciting opportunity to deliver excellent quality patient care while also developing the robotic service within a highly specialised urology department.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work a 7PA job plan with clinics, theatres, MDT, SPA and Admin time.

The post-holder will be responsible for ensuring that activities undertaken are subject to robust governance arrangements that follow best practice. Patient safety, quality of care and clinical outcomes are expected to be at the centre of all aspects of operational management of the Division.

Job responsibilities

Department of Urology

The department offers comprehensive care for the whole spectrum of Urology services and is split into 5 sub-groups, the teams work together closely along with other services such as gynaecology, womens health, assisted conception unit, oncology and the Uro-radiology.

Person Specification
Knowledge and Qualifications
  • Eligible for full UK GMC Registration and possess FRCS (Urol) or equivalent
  • On GMC Specialist Register in relevant specialty, or at the time of interview within 6 months of expected date of CCT NB: Non UK trained doctors must be on the GMC register and Specialist Register in relevant specialty by date of interview.
  • Clinical knowledge commensurate with post CCT/ fellowship training in functional, reconstructive and adolescent urology and robotic pelvic/urology surgery
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance framework of NHS
  • Higher Academic degree
Experience
  • Excellent clinical skills
  • Capacity to use and develop a wide range of theoretical approaches
  • Fellowship training in both functional and reconstructive surgery as well as robotic pelvic/urology surgery
  • Proven ability and commitment to carry out high quality research leading to publication.
  • Published research in either functional, reconstructive and adolescent urology and/or robotic uro-oncology
  • Involvement in the clinical audit process and an understanding of its aims and objectives
  • Understanding and proven ability to apply research findings in a clinical/ organisational context
Skills and Abilities
  • Comprehensive training in Urological surgery
  • Extensive experience in: -Artificial sphincter insertion -Sacral neuro modulation -Female continence procedures and prolapse procedures -Ureteric reconstruction -Bladder augmentation -Robotic pelvic surgery
  • Proven ability to teach in clinical settings with experience of teaching at undergraduate and post graduate levels
Communication
  • Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade/ negotiate.
