A support organization for individuals with disabilities seeks an experienced Personal Assistant to assist a disabled man with memory difficulties and dementia. The position is part-time, requiring 9 hours per week with possible additional hours. Responsibilities include assisting with outings, personal care, and daily living tasks. Candidates should have dementia care experience, fluent English, and a driver's license. The role offers a supportive environment with essential communication across the care team.
An experienced PA is required to provide assistance to a disabled man with longstanding memory difficulties, moderate dementia, epilepsy, night-time incontinence, and some minor balance and visual problems resulting from a head injury.
The successful candidate will join a small team of Personal Assistants, managed by the employer’s sister, who help the employer to remain living in his own home, despite his severe memory problems, and growing dementia.
The post is for 9 hours per week, consisting of 3 hours, 10am to 1pm, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays, beginning immediately.
The post is permanent and has paid holidays and pension contribution.
There may be more hours offered occasionally, by negotiation, to cover sickness and holidays.
The rate of pay will be £17.80 per hour, paid monthly in arrears.
You will be required to assist with the following tasks, usually without close supervision. The post holder will therefore need to be able to work on their own initiative whilst at the same time be respectful of the employer’s wishes.
Please be aware that the employer’s dementia means it’s likely his needs will change as the months go by.
Communication between the employer’s sister and the PA is therefore essential.
