Job description

Urban drainage plays a critical role in addressing some of Scotland’s most important water and environmental challenges, from reducing storm overflow impacts and improving water quality to understanding flood risk and building more resilient wastewater networks. At Stantec, our Urban Drainage Modelling teams combine technical expertise, hydraulic modelling and digital innovation to help water companies understand network performance and develop practical, sustainable solutions.

We’re looking for an Urban Drainage Modeller to join our growing Scottish team in Edinburgh or Glasgow, becoming part of a wider community of modelling specialists delivering work across major UK water programmes.

With a strong pipeline of projects and continued investment across the water sector, this is an opportunity to build on your modelling experience, broaden your technical expertise and contribute to projects that deliver meaningful benefits for communities, the environment and the resilience of Scotland’s water infrastructure.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You’ll work within a multidisciplinary team, applying your urban drainage modelling expertise across a variety of wastewater and drainage projects, from investigation and assessment through to developing solutions and supporting delivery.

You will:

  • Develop, verify and maintain hydraulic models using InfoWorks ICM.

  • Undertake urban drainage and wastewater modelling studies to support client investment, operational and asset management decisions.

  • Work across projects involving storm overflows, water quality, network performance, urban pollution and flood risk.

  • Interpret modelling outputs and develop clear technical recommendations for clients and project teams.

  • Contribute to innovative modelling approaches, digital solutions and improvements to technical processes and ways of working.

  • Collaborate with engineers, modellers, environmental specialists, clients and consultant/contractor partners.

  • Support the delivery of projects across Scottish and wider UK water company programmes.

  • Take responsibility for delivering defined modelling tasks and technical work packages to agreed quality, programme and budget requirements.

You’ll be part of a wider UDM community of around 175 specialists across the UK and internationally, providing opportunities to share knowledge, collaborate with experienced practitioners and contribute to innovative, industry-leading modelling work.

YOUR IMPACT

The modelling you deliver will help water companies better understand the performance of their wastewater networks and make informed decisions about future investment and operational priorities. Your work will support improvements in water quality, pollution reduction, flood risk management and the long-term resilience of Scotland’s water infrastructure.

From investigating network behaviour and identifying system constraints to developing solutions for storm overflows and wider wastewater challenges, you’ll contribute directly to projects that can make a tangible difference to the environment and the communities that rely on these essential services.

Working from Edinburgh or Glasgow, you’ll also collaborate with colleagues across Scotland, the wider UK and internationally, gaining exposure to a diverse range of projects and technical expertise.
