Job summary

Penguin Recruitment is seeking an Urban Designer to join their team in Newcastle. The role involves supporting masterplanning and urban design proposals, producing plans and visuals, and working with architects and planners on planning applications.

Applicants should hold a relevant degree and have UK practice experience, with strong graphic skills and proficiency in AutoCAD and SketchUp. The position is permanent and UK-based with a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Relevant degree in Urban Design, Town Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture or related discipline.
• Experience as Urban Designer in a UK practice or consultancy.
• Genuine interest in urban design, placemaking and the built environment.
• Strong graphic and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Support preparation of masterplans, frameworks and urban design proposals.
• Produce plans, diagrams, presentations and design material.
• Undertake site and contextual analysis.
• Assist with feasibility studies and design development.
• Contribute to design codes, guidance and planning documents.
• Support preparation of planning applications and related materials.
• Produce high-quality visuals and presentations.
• Collaborate with architects, planners, consultants and clients.

Duties for the role of Urban Designer include:

• Supporting the preparation of masterplans, frameworks and urban design proposals
• Producing plans, diagrams, presentations and design material
• Undertaking site and contextual analysis
• Assisting with feasibility studies and design development
• Contributing to design codes, design guidance and planning documents
• Supporting the preparation of planning applications and associated material

Skills and experience for the role of Urban Designer:
