Upper GI faster Diagnosis Specialist Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic registered nurse to join the Medical Division Cancer Team. You will be based at Conquest Hospital but will be required to work at any site across East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.

We are seeking a dynamic and forward thinking RGN with some experience of managing a highly specialised service to support patients with suspected Upper GI Cancer. Daily workload to include:

Triaging urgent suspected cancer referrals for patients with upper GI symptoms to decide appropriate pathway.

Working within cancer targets to ensure timely first seen appointments (within 7 days).

Telephone assessment of patients to ascertain fitness for procedure should direct to test Gastroscopy be required.

Work closely with the PPC's to ensure benign findings are communicated to our patients at the earliest opportunity.

Inform patients by telephone or letter to advise them of benign findings.

Ensure referrals for further diagnostics are completed.

Education for patients and staff

You must be able to work autonomously and as part of the multi-disciplinary team, you will have excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work both independently and within a team. Ideally you will have education to degree level and evidence of continuing professional practice.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Service Delivery and caseload/pathway management for upper gastroenterology patients.

Physical assessment and initial treatments onward referrals

Liaison with multidisciplinary team

Qualifications / Training
  • Registered Nurse/Professional and hold active registration with relevant Professional body
  • Degree level qualification relevant to role
  • Post Graduate qualification at Masters level relevant to role to demonstrate specialist clinical and leadership skills
  • Evidence of mandatory and statutory essential training skills, for example, Basic Life Support, manual handling, infection control, fire etc
  • Managerial or Leadership qualification
  • Advanced Clinical Practice modules at Masters level (Physical Assessment, Prescribing)

  • Leadership skills that demonstrate the ability to manage self and lead others, able to motivate and inspire a team
