Unqualified Teaching Assistant

Location: Childwall (L16)
Contract: Full-time (Term-time only – 39 weeks per year)
Start Date: January 2026 (or as soon as possible)
Salary: £13.75 per hour

The Role

The school is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Unqualified Teaching Assistant to join its supportive team. The successful candidate will work under the direction of qualified teachers, contributing to the academic progress and personal development of pupils. This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about working with children and considering a future career in education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support in the classroom, including:
    • Assisting with the planning and delivery of lessons
    • Supporting individual pupils and small groups, particularly those with additional needs
    • Preparing resources, displays, and teaching materials
  • Promote and encourage positive behaviour and social interaction
  • Supervise pupils during break and lunch times, as required
  • Support pupils with reading, writing, numeracy, and other basic skills
  • Assist with general administrative duties such as photocopying, filing, and record keeping
  • Help pupils develop social skills and demonstrate positive behaviour
  • Provide general welfare support, pastoral care, and basic first aid (training will be provided)
Person Specification
Essential:
  • A genuine interest in working with children and young people
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships quickly
  • Punctual, reliable, and able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE Grade 4/C in English and Maths or equivalent)
  • Willingness to receive feedback and engage in training and development
  • Patient, empathetic, and maintains a positive attitude
Desirable:
  • Previous experience working with children (paid or voluntary), e.g. nursery, after-school club, youth work
  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
