Role Overview

The UCOPE Office for Students service provides brief psychological intervention to students at risk of self‑harm across six Liverpool universities, utilising a blended model of Psychodynamic Interpersonal Therapy (PIT) and Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT). The role includes liaison with universities, health‑care services and external agencies.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments, manage risk and recommend appropriate treatments.
  • Deliver five structured intervention sessions plus one follow‑up per student.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and use screening tools such as CORE, PROMS and trust‑approved measures.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, universities and external agencies; liaise with family members and carers when appropriate.
  • Safeguard students, supervise unqualified staff, contribute to audits, service evaluation and reflective practice.
  • Supervise nursing, social work and allied professionals; participate in induction, triage and clinical meetings.
Qualifications & Skills
  • High level interpersonal and organisational skills, proactive crisis management.
  • Training will be provided; experience as a therapist is not required.
  • Knowledge of mental health legislation (Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act) is desirable.
