Winsearch is proud to be supporting a long-established precision engineering company in Birkenhead in their search for an experienced Universal Tool Cutter Grinder.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced grinder to join a skilled team where craftsmanship, quality, and precision are at the heart of everything they do.

The Opportunity

As a Universal Tool Cutter Grinder, you will be responsible for producing, sharpening, and modifying a wide range of cutting tools that support both CNC and manual machining operations. You'll work to tight tolerances, interpret tooling drawings, and help ensure the smooth running of production.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate Universal Tool & Cutter Grinding machines
• Grind, sharpen, and refurbish cutting tools (end mills, drills, reamers, form tools, specials)
• Interpret engineering drawings and tooling specifications
• Carry out precision inspection using micrometers, gauges, comparators, shadowgraphs, etc.
• Modify and adapt tooling to meet production requirements
• Maintain accurate records of tooling work and tool life
• Conduct routine machine maintenance and ensure a safe, clean work area
• Work closely with machinists, production leads, and engineering teams

What We’re Looking For

Essential

• Proven experience as a Universal Tool Cutter Grinder or Toolroom Grinder
• Strong understanding of tool geometries, grinding wheels, and grinding techniques
• Confident working to high precision and tight tolerances
• Competent with precision measuring equipment
• Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively

Desirable

• Experience with CNC tool grinding (e.g., ANCA, Walter, Deckel)
• Understanding of carbide tooling and specialist coatings
• Background in aerospace, automotive, mould tool, or medical component machining
