Job description

Jensten Underwriting is looking for an experienced and driven Underwriting Team Leader to join our New Business Underwriting team, specialising in Commercial Combined, Combined Liability and Contractors All Risks products. This is a key leadership role, responsible for delivering exceptional service to our broker partners and clients, while leading and developing a high‑performing team.

This position is based in London 2 days a week and 1 day in our Bexleyheath office. Option to work from home the remaining 2 days.

Key responsibilities:
  • Leading and inspiring a team of underwriters to deliver a professional, prompt, and efficient service.
  • Managing people, processes, and resources to ensure service delivery targets are met.
  • Monitoring underwriting performance and reporting key trends to the Senior Manager.
  • Designing and implementing effective processes and controls to manage risk.
  • Driving continuous improvement and contributing to business change initiatives.
  • Supporting the development and career progression of team members.
  • Acting as a key point of contact for brokers, insurer partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Serve as a referral and technical support point for the wider underwriting team, ensuring consistency and confidence in decision‑making across portfolios.
  • Provide leadership presence and support within the office, assisting colleagues beyond your own team, particularly when other Team Leaders are working remotely or unavailable.
  • Foster a collaborative, high‑performing, and inclusive culture across both office‑based and hybrid teams.
About you

You’re commercially minded, confident in your decision‑making, and always looking for ways to improve processes and outcomes. You’re comfortable working across multiple locations and building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

You’ll also be or have:
  • Proven experience in commercial underwriting, ideally within Commercial Combined and Contractors All Risks.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of developing and motivating teams.
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
  • A proactive, solutions‑focused approach with a commitment to delivering results.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment with a strong compliance mindset.
  • Ideally hold or working towards your CII qualifications
