We are currently offering an excellent opportunity for an Underwriting Assistant to join the Faraday Property Treaty (reinsurance) team.

This is a fantastic entry‑level role for a motivated, tech‑savvy individual with an interest in data, coding, and analytics, and a desire to develop their skills and career within the insurance industry. The role provides a strong foundation in underwriting processes and is designed to progress towards a career in underwriting.

Main Purpose of the Role

To provide administrative and underwriting support to the Property Treaty team. This role plays a key part in ensuring the smooth operation of day‑to‑day activities, supporting underwriters in delivering a timely and accurate service, and contributing to the overall efficiency of the team.

Alongside developing core underwriting skills, the role offers opportunities to build and apply technical expertise, for example, in data analysis, reporting, and process automation (including tools such as Power BI and basic coding in Python, SQL, or VBA).

Candidates with an existing aptitude in this area, or simply a strong interest in developing these skills, will have the opportunity to apply and further develop these skills as the role evolves.

Underwriting and Modelling Support
  • Setting up accounts for modelling
  • Running the modelling numbers
  • Conducting initial underwriting assessments for both new and renewal accounts when modelling is back
  • Verifying that written accounts have the correct occupancy codes before system locking
Administration and Documentation
  • Filing underwriter correspondence and documentation within the Document Management System (DMS);
  • Writing notes and updates for bound risks onto Sequel;
  • Assisting with administrative duties at the box in Lloyds, including scanning, photocopying, note taking;
  • Maintaining and updating the renewal list regularly;
  • Maintaining and updating tracker;
Cross‑Functional Liaison and Support
  • Liaising with Wordings, Claims, and Loss Modelling teams on behalf of underwriters;
  • Liaising with brokers and answering queries;
  • Collaborating with the Operations team regarding outsourced support (PRO) procedures and resolving issues;
  • Chasing brokers for overdue premium;
Research, Reporting and Monitoring
  • Saving and finalising pricing data in the monitoring system;
  • Running Qlikview reports and updating line statuses in Sequel to maintain data accuracy;
  • Preparing weekly reports on expected accounts for the team;
  • Conducting data capture for aggregate reporting and analysis;
  • Assisting with research and information gathering for report writing;
Key Relationships

The role is part of the Property Treaty team and will work closely with its members on day‑to‑day activities. It also requires regular collaboration with other internal teams, particularly Operations, Loss Modelling, and Wordings, as well as clear and professional communication with brokers. Building and maintaining strong working relationships across these groups is an important part of the role.

Experience & Qualifications
  • Recently completed A‑levels or equivalent.
  • Advanced IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Access, and especially Excel.
  • Strong interest in developing technical skills (e.g., data analytics, reporting, or basic coding in Python, SQL, or VBA).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Highly organised, with the ability to prioritise workload effectively.
  • Excellent administrative skills.
  • Confident dealing with people at all levels.
  • Problem‑solving abilities and a results‑oriented mindset.
  • Curious, with a strong interest in learning and the confidence to ask questions.
  • A working knowledge of the insurance industry is desirable, but not essential.
  • Relevant work experience would be advantageous; having good business sense is crucial.
Future Development
  • Creating dashboards and visual reports in Power BI.
  • Writing and maintaining simple automation scripts (Python, SQL, or VBA).
  • Supporting the team in enhancing reporting and workflow efficiency.
