Overview
The Terrorism Underwriter will act as a representative within established guidelines to enhance the global position of AXIS. The candidate will be responsible for helping to manage the current book whilst developing new business opportunities, making recommendations based on their knowledge of local market conditions.
Responsibilities
- Prospect new business targets and opportunities. Develop a pipeline for prospecting new business, targeting established and lapsed business relationships.
- Review and evaluate new business opportunities based upon company underwriting guidelines, competition and geographic focus.
- Underwrite an existing, renewing book of business.
- Work closely with distribution partners to ensure AXIS receives opportunities to quote acceptable risks.
- Meet established underwriting team servicing objectives related to quote turnaround, policy issuance, account and renewal management, file maintenance and documentation.
- Review coverage requests provided by brokers and determine the units position within individual authority; present requests outside authority to the immediate supervisor for approval or guidance.
- Analyse and underwrite individual risks. Develop appropriate limit structure, retention, pricing and endorsements within underwriting guidelines.
- Understand Aggregation Modelling outputs and use these results to guide underwriting decisions (AIR preferred).
- Continue to develop and update product and underwriting knowledge.
- Maintain up-to-date familiarity with economic, geo-political and legal factors that impact the units products.
- Participate in special projects and department initiatives at the request of the manager.
- Business travel may be required.
- Assist in training and development of more junior team members.
- Confidently meet individually with clients and articulate the Teams appetite for risk.
- Keep up to date with market conditions and trends and adapt these to day-to-day underwriting.
- You may also be required to take on additional duties, responsibilities and activities appropriate to the nature of this role.
Qualifications
- Highly motivated self-starter who can quickly assess marketplace opportunities for the benefit of AXIS and its clients
- A minimum of 5 years' relevant experience in London insurance market
- An ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience at all levels, including Executive Leadership.
- Strong analytical skills and proven ability to align business analysis with departmental strategy
- Excellent negotiation, interpersonal/communication skills, and strong marketing abilities
- Ability to multi-task and manage conflicting priorities
- Excellent team-working skills
- Accurate and diligent working approach
- Ability to establish broker relationships.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- ACII Qualification (or working towards)

Working arrangement
In this role, you will typically be required to: Be in the office 3-4 days per week.
