Job summary

A leading commercial insurance provider is seeking an experienced Property & Casualty Underwriter to join their team in Essex. This role involves underwriting mid-market new business and engaging with brokers to drive regional growth. Ideal candidates should have a minimum of 3 years’ commercial underwriting experience and possess strong analytical and communication skills. Hybrid working is available, with three days in the office and the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays.

Location: Essex – 3 days in the office

PURPOSE OF ROLE

Lawes is recruiting on behalf of a leading name in the commercial insurance market for an experienced Property & Casualty Underwriter. This is a key role focused on underwriting mid-market new business across a broad territory. You will contribute to a £30M GWP operation, delivering tailored solutions and driving regional growth through strong broker engagement. Hybrid working available – Monday and Friday work from home.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Underwrite mid-market risks, primarily Property & Casualty (P&C)
  • Determines the desirability of accepting or rejecting business risks. Prices exposures in accordance with filed and approved rate levels, discretionary pricing mechanisms, and business unit guidelines.
  • Identifies the need, recommends and evaluates additional risk assessment information including inspection, financial reports and statements.
  • Coordinates individual risk underwriting actions with other departments to assure the highest level of customer satisfaction while meeting production and business goals.
  • Performs product development and marketing activities including identifying producer relationships within assigned market to optimize best solutions for distribution, identifies and suggests new and modified products, identifies producers for business/marketing programs, and analyses producers and market opportunities.
  • Maintains ongoing liaison with producers to obtain supplemental underwriting information, evaluate risks, decline risks, analyse and interpret coverage, explain underwriting requirements and expectations, and present terms.
  • Regularly interfaces with customers to provide service and to keep abreast of customer issues.
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 3 years’ underwriting experience within the commercial insurance sector
  • Broad experience underwriting mid-market risks across multiple commercial lines
