Job summary

A leading defense contractor in the UK is seeking an Undergraduate Submarines Metrologist Engineer for a 12-month placement. You will build and support instrumentation solutions related to submarines, ensuring data integrity and managing monitoring systems. A minimum of a 2.2 in a relevant STEM degree is essential. Job Title: Undergraduate Submarines Metrologist Engineer

Location: Barrow (Cumbria)

We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements, however for this role you will be expected to attend your site 5 days per week.

Salary: £24,300

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Building, integrating and testing bespoke instrumentation solutions where suitable commercial options aren’t available. Supporting novel research projects connected to advance and novel sensing (e.g. how to sense strain).
  • Supporting emergent site instrumentation projects identifying effective solutions to emerging problems related to metrology and calibration.
  • Installing, maintaining, and repairing in-service monitoring systems installed throughout the Barrow site (e.g. detecting and monitoring ionising and non-ionising radiation).
  • Helping to deploy, operate, and maintain monitoring systems used to support various manufacturing and trials activities across all submarine build programmes.
  • Managing data quality and integrity for manufacturing and trials instrumentation systems.
