Job summary

Viatris in Sandwich, England, is seeking an Undergraduate Industrial Placement Materials Scientist to gain 12 months of hands-on experience in a pharmaceutical laboratory within the Global Respiratory Group. You will apply your degree knowledge and develop new analytical skills while contributing to the development of respiratory medicines such as DPIs and MDIs.

Qualifications

  • Must be registered on an undergraduate chemistry or pharmaceutical sciences degree program and must have completed at least 2 years of study, not graduated at the start of the placement.
  • Must understand basic analytical chemistry principles.
  • Good IT skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and plan own work with supervisor guidance.
  • Enthusiasm for lab-based work and good written/oral communication.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out analytical activities to support respiratory product development and clinical studies.
  • Perform analyses related to formulations, processes, and stability.
  • Maintain lab documentation and troubleshoot instrumentation.
  • Contribute to project delivery and lab housekeeping as required.

The Undergraduate Industrial Placement at Viatris, Sandwich, offers the opportunity to gain 12 months of invaluable experience in a working laboratory at one of the top 20 global pharmaceutical companies.By undertaking the Industrial Placement, you will apply and develop the skills your degree has already provided you with as well as learn new skills that are essential for building a career within the pharmaceutical industry – effective communication, collaborative working, and problem solving. You will be mentored by an experienced industrial supervisor through a tailored programme of training, designed to help you grow both professionally and technically as a Materials/ Analytical Scientist. Every day, we rise to the challenge to make a difference, and the **Undergraduate Industrial Placement Materials Scientist** role will make an impact through the following responsibilities:* Carry out analytical activities required to deliver new respiratory products to clinical studies and commercialisation.* Execute experiments to generate scientific understanding in development of analytical methods, formulations and processes.* Perform analyses related to clinical supplies, stability, and process scale up.* Process data: highlight aberrant or suspect results and work with supervisor to investigate.* Maintain laboratory documentation in accordance with good documentation practices.* Maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation.* Contribute to project delivery by carrying out other tasks (e.g., laboratory housekeeping, ordering, shipping samples) as required.**About Your Skills & Experience**For this role, we’re looking for a candidate who has an effective combination of the following qualifications, skills and experiences:* **Must be registered on an undergraduate chemistry or pharmaceutical sciences related degree program, must have completed at least 2 years of study and must not have graduated at the start of the placement.*** Must be familiar with the basic principles of analytical chemistry* Must possess good IT skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)* Must be able to work collaboratively within a team environment* Must be able to organise tasks allocated by supervisor and plan own work to consistently achieve output of high-quality results in a timely manner, following established analytical methods and operating procedures.* Must have enthusiasm to work in a lab-based role* Must have good written and oral communicationAdditional desirable skills and experience:* Has knowledge and/or experience of modern instrumental methods of analysis, e.g., particle sizing, FT-IR, SEM and thermal analysis techniques.* Experience or knowledge in development and testing of Inhalation Products.* Experience or knowledge of physical properties testing, e.g., particle size, surface area, amorphous content.* Good understanding of laboratory safety and best practice.* Knowledge of cGMPAt Viatris, we are dedicated to building a truly diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t fully align with every requirement, we still encourage you to apply.
