Design Your Future: Our Programme

We believe great engineers are made through hands‑on experience, and no two journeys should look the same. That’s why our 24‑month graduate programme is designed to give you breadth, real responsibility and the freedom to shape your path.

Our unique rotational system really sets our programme apart. You’ll start with 12 months in a core discipline, followed by two six‑month rotations in other teams of your choice. This gives you the opportunity to grow into a well‑rounded engineer with a real sense of where your strengths and interests lie – whether that’s in Structural, Civil, Geotechnical or Construction Engineering.

How We’ll Support You
  • A tailored development plan built around your goals
  • Mentorship from experienced engineers, including Chartered mentors
  • A close‑knit graduate cohort with regular socials, masterclasses and peer sessions
  • Funded membership to your professional institution
  • A clear path towards chartership – and support every step of the way
Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for ambitious final‑year students and recent graduates with a degree in civil, structural, geotechnical or construction engineering – people who are curious, collaborative and ready to take on real‑world challenges in design and consulting engineering.

At Robert Bird Group, we don’t just want technical talent – we’re after sharp thinkers, strong communicators and team players who are excited by the idea of shaping the built environment of the future.

You’ll stand out if you:

  • Have strong technical, analytical and numerical skills
  • Enjoy working in teams and contributing to shared goals
  • Are open to exploring different disciplines before specialising
  • Think creatively and stay flexible when challenges arise
  • Communicate clearly and confidently
  • Are driven to grow, develop and keep learning
Meet Our Graduates

Our graduate programme has provided fantastic opportunities to develop as an engineer. Students have worked on projects such as Project Vista, designing a tower crane foundation, and Hinkley Point C, creating prefabricated reinforcement cages that reduce installation time and cost. They also enjoy a supportive environment, structured training, and a vibrant culture with site visits, social events and initiatives around wellbeing and sustainability.
