Job summary

BAM UK & Ireland is seeking a UK Geotechnical Manager to lead geotechnical operations across the UK. You will build relationships with clients, grow and lead a high-performing UK team, and ensure safe delivery of regulated geotechnical projects.

The role reports to the Director, Ground Engineering and can be based from Kilsyth, Godstone or Nailsea with frequent client/site visits. If you’re strategic, experienced in geotechnical or infrastructure project delivery and passionate about safety,

Qualifications

  • Professionally qualified and Chartered Engineer and/or Chartered Geologist.
  • Active professional affiliations with relevant industry bodies.
  • Strong knowledge of geotechnical and engineering geological processes and design.
  • Substantial experience of managing projects, budgets and resources.
  • Proven track record in client management.
  • Able to communicate strategy and operational plan to a regional team.
  • Able to lead and develop others in their career.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and foster relationships with key clients across the region.
  • Deliver safely executed, profitable and high-quality geotechnical schemes.
  • Inform the Director and Operations Manager of potential problems, strategic options, and future work opportunities.
  • Provide operational, strategic, contractual and technical advice to bid preparation and project management.
  • Mentor project/regional teams in delivering robust cost forecasts for monthly/quarterly reporting.
  • Establish and promote best practices in health, safety, sustainability, cost, time and quality.
  • Oversee assignment of staff resources to projects and tenders.
  • Lead and manage all staff assigned, coordinating with HR for deployments.

At BAM, we have an exciting opportunity for a UK Geotechnical Manager to lead our geotechnical operations across the UK. This key role will involve building and maintaining strong, customer-focused relationships, growing and leading a high-performing UK team, and ensuring the safe and successful delivery of regulated geotechnical projects. This role will report directly to the Director, Ground Engineering in BAM UK & Irelands Infrastructure segment and can be based from Kilsyth (Glasgow), Godstone (London) or Nailsea (Bristol) (depending on your geographical location) with frequent visits to clients/sites and visits/interaction with peers across the UK.

  • Provide operational, strategic, contractual and technical advice and/or service to bid preparation and project management.

  • Adopt a consistent approach to cost management and control in liaison with commercial management, ensuring that resources are available to support implement on projects under your control.
  • Mentor project/regional teams in the timely delivery of realistic and robust cost forecasts for monthly and quarterly financial reporting
  • Lead the acquisition, preparation and review of designated prequalification submissions to successful outcomes.
  • Assist in the acquisition, preparation and review of designated tenders, with particular reference to planning, methodology and design.
  • Review, in liaison with the commercial management and procurement departments, any major subcontracts and supplier terms prior to placing orders in order to minimise exposure to risk and maximise opportunities for strong supply chain performance.
  • Oversee responsibility for assigning staff resources to projects, tenders and other activities under your control and for their onward transfer upon completion.
  • Lead and manage all staff and personnel assigned to you, working with the HR department and others, to oversee the deployment and re-deployment of staff and personnel.
