Job summary

Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an UHN Maternity Flow Co-ordinator to provide senior midwifery leadership and operational oversight of maternity flow across the site, ensuring safe, effective care for women, babies and families.

The post holder will monitor real-time capacity, staffing and patient flow, coordinate escalation, and work with ward managers and clinical colleagues to maintain safe capacity and service continuity.

Job summary

The post holder will provide visible senior midwifery leadership and operational coordination to support safe, effective and responsive maternity flow across the acute site. Working as a key point of oversight for operational activity, workforce deployment, capacity, acuity and escalation, the role will support proactive planning, timely decision-making and safe continuity of care for women, babies and families.

Maintain real-time oversight of maternity activity, capacity, acuity, escalation status, patient flow and workforce deployment across the acute maternity site.

Support proactive operational and workforce planning, including staffing, beds, admissions, transfers and discharges, to respond safely to service demand.

Identify, coordinate and elevate operational pressures in line with Trust processes, supporting timely decision-making and safe day-to-day running of the maternity unit.

Work collaboratively with ward managers, matrons, senior clinical colleagues, operational managers, directorate teams and wider site operational teams to maintain safe capacity management and service continuity.

The post holder will be required to have access to a car/transport and the ability to travel between locations.

Main duties of the job

• Proactively identifies, manages and escalates concerns relating to bed capacity, staffing, patient flow, safety or service pressures to senior colleagues in line with the Trust escalation process, supporting timely decision-making and safe operational oversight.
• Ensures appropriate referral to other professionals/agencies as the need arises.
• Ensures that relevant guidelines and policies are implemented effectively and efficiently.
• Ensures the maximum use of all resources available within their sphere of control.
• Works with the practice development team to ensure an optimum environment for all learners, including newly qualified midwives, student midwives, nurses, medical students, return to practice and adaptation midwives.
• Ensures that all staff within their sphere of control fulfil the function of the post they hold.
• Identifies and minimises clinical risk in line with the Trust's Risk Management Strategy.
• Demonstrates excellent communication skills and consults with others in the multidisciplinary team so that services run smoothly, in the best interests of women, babies and families.
• Reports to the Lead Midwife and risk coordinator any complaints, accidents or untoward incidents in accordance with Trust policy, and assists with any investigation.
