We urgently require two support workers to provide 2:1 support for a 16‑year‑old male child with Autism, a significant learning disability & limited verbal communication. There are existing support workers in place, however we now require additional support to cover holidays.

Main Duties The role is to support this young person to access age‑appropriate activities in the community. He enjoys bike rides, swimming and going to the beach and park.

  • Male workers would be preferred (although not essential) as the young man will require support with personal care.
  • Support is also required with the young person’s limited ability to communicate verbally.
  • His first language is Arabic however he has few familiar or contextual words in Arabic or English.
  • He makes use of visual prompts such as PECs and communication books in school and continuation of this would be preferred.
  • The child can become very anxious and distressed in busy places, which can affect his behaviour, and he requires a high level of supervision to keep him safe. He has limited awareness of risk and full support will be required with this.
Person Specification
  • Have a positive understanding about young people who have disabilities
  • Have a genuine interest in working with young people with complex needs
  • Be able to respond positively, sensitively and effectively with challenging behaviours
  • Have knowledge and experience of working with young people who have very limited verbal communication skills
  • Have a high degree of initiative
  • Be punctual and reliable as the young person cannot be left unsupervised
  • Be flexible and have a positive and caring nature
  • Respect confidentiality
Hours
  • 5 hours per week in term time weeks and 10 hours per week in all school holiday weeks.
Rates of pay
  • £13.74 per hour.
  • Holiday entitlement is 5.6 weeks per year pro‑rata.
  • Out of pocket expenses to be paid by employer.

Car driver required and must be insured for business use. The successful candidate will require an Enhanced Certificate of Disclosure (DBS), cost to be met by employer.
