Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Tutor to provide one-to-one Mathematics or English tutoring for a child in mainstream education with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), based in Havant. This is a part-time, face-to-face role (5-10 hours per week) that offers the opportunity to make a real difference by supporting learning in a calm, structured, and nurturing environment.

Details of the SEND tutor role
  • Location: Havant
  • Hours: 1-3 hours per week (face-to-face)
  • Pay: £30-£35 per hour
The Role

As a Tutor, you will plan and deliver tailored lessons in Maths or English, adapting your teaching approach to suit the learner's individual needs, interests, and learning style. You'll work collaboratively with parents and school staff to ensure consistency and continuity of learning, helping the student to develop both academic skills and confidence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging, personalized lessons in Mathematics or English.
  • Support emotional regulation and maintain a calm, positive learning space.
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and enjoyment of learning.
  • Build a trusting and supportive relationship with the learner.
  • Use visual supports, structured routines, or other communication tools as needed.
  • Adapt lessons to accommodate sensory preferences and attention levels.
  • Provide regular feedback to parents and school staff on progress and next steps.
Essential Qualities of the tutor
  • Have experience supporting children with Autism (ASD) or other additional needs.
  • Have the ability to differentiate lessons to suit varying learning profiles.
  • Have a patient, empathetic, and flexible teaching approach.
  • Have excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Have the ability to travel to the student's home or agreed location.
