Job summary

A leading aerospace company in Nelson is seeking a skilled Setter/Operator for their CNC Turning section. The role requires operating modern CNC Lathes during the night shift, ensuring safety and quality compliance. Candidates should have the ability to interpret engineering drawings, communicate effectively, and ideally possess experience with multi spindle or mill/turn operations. Competitive shift pay is available in addition to the basic rate, and training is provided for suitable candidates.

Job description
Role Profile

This role is for a Setter/Operator on our CNC Turning section. The candidate would be required to set and operate our range of modern CNC Lathes. Ideally the candidate would have a mill/turn twin spindle background. This role is specifically for a night shift - Monday - Thursday.

Key Accountabilities And Responsibilities
  • Participate in a positive and proactive EHS culture across the site.
  • Understand, interpret and work to Engineering drawings and to work to tight tolerances.
  • Provide methods and technical support to other members of the team wherever necessary.
  • Working in conjunction with the manufacturing engineers and CNC programmer, operate the CNC to meet the daily production targets.
  • Ensure that full documentation is kept up to date detailing the CNC path, featuring and tooling information.
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Document actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Contribute new ideas and positive support to the current processes by improving productivity.
  • Support and participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives across Shop Operations. (I.E. Yellow Belt LEAN Manufacturing, 6S initiatives, cost reductions, housekeeping)
  • Carry out any other duties that may be necessary to meet departmental objectives.
  • Carry out daily maintenance and machine checks and document.
Person Specification
  • Team Player with the ability to work alone and use own initiative with minimum supervision.
  • Ideally the candidate would have a multi spindle, Mill/Turn background. However training would be available for suitable candidate.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience with hand measuring tools.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience with Fanuc controls preferred. However training would be available for the suitable candidate.
