At Grant Thornton we do things differently - looking to the future, driving ambitious growth and pioneering positive change in our industry. Providing audit, tax and advisory services, we empower clients through strategic insight, curiosity, and genuine partnership. And we empower our people with real opportunity, an inclusive culture and work life balance. A true alternative.

With over 5,000 people in the UK, and a presence in 150 global markets, we're on an ambitious journey, from great to exceptional, and we need the best people to help us achieve our potential. And with that comes the opportunity to help redefine what our industry looks like, and what you want from your career.

Job Description:

More than you expected

Grant Thornton UK Advisory and Tax LLP is part of a global network of independent audit, tax and advisory firms, made up of some 58,000 people in over 135 countries. We're a team of independent thinkers who put quality, inclusion and integrity first. All around the world we bring a different experience to our clients. A better experience. One that delivers the expertise they need in a way that goes beyond. Personal, proactive, and agile. That's Grant Thornton.

New Ground won’t break itself

Every day our teams help people in businesses and communities to do what is right and achieve their goals.

Grant Thornton’s well established Turnaround and Restructuring Team supports companies and their stakeholders to successfully navigate periods of stress and distress by providing restructuring services that deliver thoughtful, innovative and pragmatic solutions.

As part of an international network, we work alongside colleagues across the globe and have access to expertise across our full-service practice, including colleagues with deep sector experience. This breadth and depth mean we have the reach and flexibility to support lenders, investors and management teams with their challenging situations, whether arising from financial and/or operational issues. Our expertise across creditor and company advisory includes turnaround services, restructuring solutions, options assessment and contingency planning, and independent business reviews, alongside delivering formal insolvency appointments and acting as expert witness.

Our clients range from international, listed groups to mid-market OMBs and their stakeholders, across a range of sectors including real estate, construction, healthcare, energy and natural resources, industrials, manufacturing and automotive and consumer finance. In recent years, our team has worked on some of the largest and high‑profile assignments, including Ambatovy, McDermott, River Island, Buckingham Group and Royale Resorts as well as a large number of challenging but rewarding confidential engagements across the UK and beyond.

Whilst working as part of our national team you will gain exposure to these larger assignments, in the regions we remain continue to act in Grant Thornton’s core mid market space, assisting lenders and corporates in navigating the ever changing commercial and funding landscape.

You will work as part of our growing and diverse team which is passionate about understanding the issues that are important to our clients. Being part of a national team based in Leeds presents an opportunity to work across the UK as well as further afield and you’ll be supported to develop your career.

The constantly evolving restructuring landscape calls for a proactive approach, so you will need to push ideas harder and ask the difficult questions to give clients the assurance they need to support them through challenging periods of their lifecycle.

Day to day you will be working on assignments ranging from investigations designed to assess a corporate’s financial robustness, though options assessments or contingency planning and into formal insolvency assignment design to achieve a quick sale of the business and/or maximise the return to creditors from the failure.

We’re happy to discuss flexible working and consider reduced hours and job shares, and we’ll support you to balance your work and life.

A look into the role:

As an Assistant Manager in the team, you will:

  • Begin to understand and demonstrate the market and current developments (both work givers and competitors).
  • Provide recommendations to ongoing negotiations and sales pitches including origination activities.
  • Contribute to internal and external presentations for both the department and the firm.
  • Build and nurture your own network both internally and external to the firm.
  • Take part at internal and external events, on training, marketing and assignment related subjects to promote restructuring services.
  • Be able to apply technical knowledge appropriately in the context of individual clients and can display both skill and speed in resolving client problems.
  • Make quick, clear and unequivocal recommendations to managers about client issues and can generate a range of options and choices and narrow these down appropriately.
  • Begin to understand and demonstrate the balance between the need for information and data and the requirement, from a client's perspective, for quick decisions and recommendations.
  • Manage junior staff working on assignments, including coaching, identifying and dealing with performance issues in a timely manner, ensuring that regular feedback is given, ensuring as far as possible that team members receive appropriate opportunities to develop.
