Job summary

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Trust Wide Grounds and Gardens Operative to join the Estates & Facilities Department in Leeds. You will support the maintenance of landscaped areas, trees, turf and external environments while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.

The role involves practical horticultural tasks, including tree maintenance where qualified, pest control oversight, irrigation installation and responding to adverse weather services.

Qualifications

• Experience in horticultural maintenance within a large site.
• Ability to interpret plans and drawings when required.
• Awareness of health & safety and COSHH requirements.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the delivery of the maintenance service for external environments, including horticultural, arboriculture and landscaping activities.
• Undertake tree maintenance operations with the safe use of chainsaws where qualified.
• Oversee pest recognition, treatment, and removal in accordance with current legislation.
• Maintain amenity and fine turf areas.
• Install and maintain irrigation systems in accordance with Legionella control requirements.
• Interpret plans, drawings and specifications when required.
• Utilise Estates management systems to record and update maintenance undertakings.
• Deliver critical adverse weather services including gritting and snow clearance.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, COSHH, Infection Prevention and Trust policies.
