The Urology service is based at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow but undertakes outpatient sessions at St. Margaret's Hospital, Epping and Herts & Essex Hospital in Bishop's Stortford.

Main duties of the job
  • The post holder will work a basic working week of 40 hours, 8am-5pm Monday-Friday with no on call requirements
  • The post holder will assist the Specialist Registrar in the treatment of all cases under their care and will visit all patients under their care every morning and make such additional visits to particular patients as requested by the FY1 resident doctors or Ward Staff
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with Trust policies.
  • The post holder will be expected to cover ward rounds and support FY1 resident doctors
  • The post holder will be expected to work in the Same Day Emergency Care unit as part of their duties as well as attending clinics and theatre lists in a supernumerary position

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The duties of the CT1-2 Trust Grade Doctor are primarily based at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, although the post holder will also be required to attend outpatient clinics at St Margaret's Hospital in Epping and at the Herts & Essex Hospital in Bishop's Stortford. The role is structured around a basic working week of forty hours, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, with no on‑call commitments attached to the post.

In their daily practice, the post holder will assist the Specialist Registrar in the management and treatment of all patients under their care. They will visit all patients under their responsibility each morning to review progress and will make additional visits to specific patients as requested by FY1 resident doctors or ward staff. The post holder will also be expected to participate in ward rounds and provide support to FY1 resident doctors, ensuring that patient care is delivered safely and effectively.

A key responsibility of the role is to ensure that discharge and audit forms are completed for every patient prior to leaving hospital. The post holder must also confirm that each patient is provided with a discharge summary that accurately reflects their diagnosis, treatment and follow‑up arrangements.

As part of their duties, the post holder will work within the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit, contributing to the assessment and management of patients requiring urgent but non‑admitted care. They will also attend outpatient clinics and theatre lists in a supernumerary capacity, gaining valuable exposure to a wide range of clinical cases and procedures.

In addition to these responsibilities, the post holder must familiarise themselves with hospital protocols relating to the mobilisation of resources in the event of a major disaster or incident. They are expected to understand their role within the hospital's emergency response framework and to be prepared to contribute to the safe and effective management of such situations.

Overall, the position requires close collaboration with consultants, registrars, FY1 resident doctors, nursing staff, and allied health professionals, with an emphasis on maintaining high standards of patient care, documentation, and professional conduct.
