Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Trust Grade Doctor (ST3-5) in Trauma and Orthopaedics at the Leeds General Infirmary. The role is permanent with a January 2027 start, offering exposure to polytrauma and comprehensive training opportunities.

The postholder works with a team of surgeons, on an on-call and 24-hour partial shift rota, across two sites (Leeds General Infirmary and Chapel Allerton Hospital). Fully GMC registered candidates with ATLS and MRCS are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Full GMC registration with license to practice.
• Minimum 2 years’ trauma/orthopaedic surgery experience.
• One year at registrar level; 24 months NHS experience.
• ATLS certification and MRCS (or equivalent) are required.

Trust Doctor in the department of Trauma and Orthopaedics

We have an exciting opportunity here at Leeds Teaching Hospitals due to an expansion of our rota. We are recruiting a Trust Grade Doctor (Level ST3-5) post within the second largest Major Trauma Centre in the UK based at the Leeds General Infirmary. This appointment is permanent, starting January 2027.

The posts have been designed for experienced doctors wishing to pursue a career in Trauma and Orthopaedics.

The applicant must have full GMC registration with license to practice, a minimum of two years previous experience in trauma and orthopaedic surgery, one year at registrar level, a minimum of 24 months experience as a doctor in the NHS, a valid ATLS certification and must have full MRCS or equivalent.

Job Summary

We offer exposure to polytrauma and trauma Orthopaedic surgery aligned with excellent training opportunities. You will be allocated an educational supervisor to help guide your career aspirations and to maximise educational opportunities, you will have the opportunity to access medical expertise in a wide variety of disciplines.

The post holder will work with a team of surgeons to provide inpatient care for both trauma and elective patients. The post holder will be on an on call and a 24 hour partial shift rota.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals is a leading healthcare institution, excelling in patient care, teaching and research. We provide Trauma and Orthopaedic services from two sites within Leeds. All trauma is admitted to the Leeds General Infirmary and elective work is undertaken at Chapel Allerton Hospital, approximately 3 miles from the Infirmary. The Trust Grade Doctor will be expected to work at both sites.

Their Duties Will Include

• Fracture Clinics
• Trauma and Elective Orthopaedic surgery
• Weekend Hip lists
• Ward rounds and patient reviews
• Support to FY1/2, and ST1/2 doctors.
• Full in house educational and clinical supervision and mentoring package
• Access to participate in on-going departmental research and audit presentations.
• Opportunities to teach undergraduates
• Access to clinical governance meetings.
