Job description

Thisis a full time appointment for a Trust Grade Doctor in Renal Medicine. Theappointment is for 6 months but may be extendable.

Thepost is based in the renal unit at St James Hospital, supporting all aspects ofrenal care including renal transplantation. You will be an integral part of therenal unit working as part of the large multi-professional team. You will beworking as part of a 1 in 9 out of hours rota.

Applicants should have completed intermediate medicaltraining.

Main duties of the job

Thepost holder will be an integral part of the renal unit working as part of thelarge multi-professional team.

Youwill be involved in the running of the inpatient ward areas, taking referralsand queries from other health care providers, and working on our day unit. Youwill also be involved in care of patients attending the haemodialysis andperitoneal dialysis units.

You will be trained in the insertion of temporary andsemi-permanent dialysis catheters, will attend multlidisciplinary team meetingsand be able to attend outpatient services including specialist clinics.

About us

Therenal unit in Leeds is in St James Hospital, part of the Leeds TeachingHospitals NHS Trust. The unit is a tertiary referral centre for patientsthroughout Yorkshire. All aspects of renal care are provided including acutetransplantation. There are two inpatient wards, and outreach service (includinghaemodialysis) to the Leeds General Infirmary, onsite haemodialysis for 130patients, a peritoneal dialysis unit and a specialist outpatient facility.Haemodialysis is delivered to 800 outpatients via the 7 satellite units. Wehave an expanding home dialysis service, and more than 50% of our patients areinvolved in shared care.

Ina department of 17 consultants, 2 specialist trust grade doctors, 2advanced nurse practitioners inhaemodialysis and a multidisciplinary team including over 200 nursing staff,clinical nurse specialists and allied health professionals there is opportunityto experience all aspects of the renal curriculum.

  • Completion of foundation training and IMT
  • Previous experience in working in the NHS
  • Previous experience working in renal medicine
Qualifications
  • MBChB or equivalent
  • MRCP
  • ALS
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise from, the GMC at time of application.
