Main duties of the job

As a Treatment Room Nurse, youll play a key role in providing high-quality care and supporting our patients. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Treatment Room Care: Deliver a range of clinical services in a safe, professional manner.
  • Wound Care: Assess and treat wounds, manage leg ulcers, and perform Doppler assessments.
  • Immunisations: Administer baby, adult, and travel immunisations following NHS guidelines.
  • Cervical Screening: Carry out cervical screening tests for early detection and prevention.
  • Health Checks: Conduct hypertension reviews and well-person checks, offering advice and support.

Job responsibilities

The Nurse is to support practicenurses colleagues and other healthcare professionals within the Shirley Health Partnership.

This role is responsible for the delivery of evidence-basednursing services, working as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team,delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patientpopulation.

Working autonomously, the Nurse will be responsible for a number of clinical areas such as public healthand screening programmes, including infection prevention and control,immunisations, health promotion and prevention, well man/woman clinics andcervical screening, Furthermore, they embed population health managementapproaches within general practice, targeting health inequalities and improvingaccess.

The post-holder will be an integralpart of the general practice team, as well as supporting the wider practicenurse network and multi-disciplinary team. They are to participate in formaltraining events and to promote best practice in their area of expertise as wellas supporting the practice management team in the reviewing and delivery ofclinical policy and procedure.

ThisShirley Health Partnership must ensure that the post-holder has access toappropriate clinical supervision and an appropriate named individual in the ShirleyHealth Partnership to provide general advice and support on a day-to-day basis.Further information on clinical supervision can be sought within the ShirleyHealth Partnerships Clinical Supervision Policy.

Person Specification
Experience
  • Broad knowledge of general practice and experience of working as a Practice or Community Nurse
  • Experience of working autonomously
  • Experience of infection prevention and control measures
  • Experience of quality initiatives, i.e., benchmarking
  • An appreciation of the NHS landscape including the relationship between individual Shirley Health Partnerships, PCNs and the commissioners
Qualifications
  • QualificationsEssential
  • Registered Nurse (Nursing and Midwifery Council)
  • Has evidence of working at the relevant level of practice as described in the Primary Care and General Practice Nursing Career and Core Capabilities Framework
  • Mentor or teaching qualification
Clinical Knowledge and Skills
  • Experience of Practice Nurse skills including wound care, ECG, venepuncture, immunisations, new patient medicals and womans health (cervical cytology, contraception etc.)
  • Request pathology tests and process the results, advising patients accordingly
  • Understanding of the importance of evidence-based practice
  • Ability to promote best practice regarding nursing matters
  • Ability to work within own scope of practice and understand when to refer to GPs
  • Good clinical system IT knowledge and an ability to record accurate clinical notes
  • Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information effectively with people by telephone, email and face to face
  • Understanding of safeguarding adults and children
  • Understanding and knowledge of healthcare provision in GP surgeries, QOF and enhanced service
  • Effectively able to communicate and understand the needs of the patient
  • Broad knowledge of clinical governance
  • Knowledge of public health issues in the local area
  • Awareness of issues within the wider health arena and knowledge of health promotion strategies
  • Knowledge of national standards that inform general practice (NSF NICE guidelines)
