Job summary

Thames Water, the UK’s largest water and wastewater company, is seeking a Treasury Analyst to join a front-office team and gain exposure to the wider business and external stakeholders on all treasury elements.

You will support liquidity management in a Group with £14bn debt, ~£500m annual interest costs, and a derivatives portfolio notional value over £10bn, reporting into the Assistant Treasurer.

Qualifications

  • Analytical thinker with attention to detail.
  • Understanding of debt and derivatives transactions.
  • Treasury knowledge or experience.
  • Excellent Excel skills and ability to use Treasury systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily cash management activities (money market funds, deposits, facility drawdowns).
  • Prepare weekly and three-month rolling cash forecasts; support longer-term forecasting.
  • Analyze counterparty exposure and risk.
  • Create deals in the Treasury Management System.
  • Prepare covenant compliance certificates.
  • Identify and implement process efficiency improvements using Treasury systems.
  • Coordinate with Treasury colleagues to ensure proper recording and accounting.
  • Ensure activities comply with treasury policy and procedures.
  • Develop new procedures and documentation where required.
  • Support on projects/ information delivery to auditors and stakeholders.
  • Assist the Assistant Treasurer with ad hoc tasks and analysis.

Job description

This is a broad and exciting Treasury Analyst front office role at the UK’s largest Water and Wastewater Company, in which you will gain exposure to our wider business and external stakeholders on all elements of treasury.

This role will give the right person an exciting challenge and scope to help shape the direction of our Treasury team.

You will support the liquidity management in a Group with debt obligations of over £14bn, annual group interest costs of c.£500m and a derivatives portfolio with a notional value of over £10bn, reporting into the Assistant Treasurer.

What you’ll be doing as a Treasury Analyst
  • Responsible for completing daily cash management activities including money market funds, deposit transactions and facility drawdowns for the Group.
  • Preparation of weekly, three-month rolling cash forecast and support production of longer-term forecast.
  • Counterparty exposure and risk analysis.
  • Create deals on the Treasury Management System.
  • Prepare periodic covenant compliance certificates.
  • Identify and implement process efficiencies and automation using the Treasury Management System, including transaction inputting, reporting and market data uploads.
  • Liaise with Treasury colleagues to ensure transactions are recorded and accounted for properly.
  • Ensure all activities are undertaken in compliance with treasury policy and procedures.
  • Develop new procedures and documentation where required.
  • Support on projects/delivery of information e.g. to auditors and other stakeholders on the debt/derivatives portfolio.
  • Support the Assistant Treasurer with any other tasks/ad hoc activities or analysis.
Working pattern: 36 Hours
What you should bring to the role

To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:

  • A talented individual with excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • An understanding of debt and derivatives transactions, including index-linked instruments.
  • Treasury knowledge or experience.
  • Good at building relationships, a team player and an effective communicator
  • Excellent MS Excel skills, familiar with Treasury Management Systems.
  • Part or fully qualified finance professional
