Job description

More Education exists to enable, empower, facilitate, and support neurodivergent young people to achieve their full potential. Between 2025–27, we are focused on strengthening governance, building financial resilience, expanding our Community Hub, and laying the groundwork for an independent specialist school. Trustees play a critical role in helping us achieve these ambitions.

As Treasurer, you will provide strategic financial leadership across the organisation, ensuring sound governance, compliance, and sustainability. You will work closely with the Chair, CEO, and Finance Working Group to oversee budgeting, reporting, risk management, and the financial aspects of major initiatives such as the school project, HR reforms, and community programmes. You will help the Board understand complex financial matters, contribute to strategic decision-making, and champion strong financial practices across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Leadership & Strategy Oversee preparation and presentation of budgets, management accounts, and annual financial statements to the Board.
  • Advise on financial implications of strategic initiatives, including school development, HR reforms, and Community Hub expansion.
  • Ensure effective financial controls, policies, and procedures, including reserves and investment strategies.
  • Monitor income streams and expenditure to support financial sustainability.
Governance & Compliance
  • Ensure statutory compliance and adherence to best practice.
  • Lead liaison with external auditors and oversee internal audit processes.
  • Support risk management and internal control systems.
  • Chair the Finance Working Group and contribute to cross-cutting trustee working groups.
Strategic Contribution
  • Provide insight on financial models for growth and major projects.
  • Strengthen Board financial literacy.
  • Support decision-making on resource allocation and long-term financial planning.
Person Specification

Essential

  • Qualified finance professional (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent financial experience/ background.
  • Strategic thinker with experience in organisational growth and financial risk management.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to explain complex financial matters clearly to non-specialists.
  • Commitment to More Education’s mission and values.
  • Willingness to dedicate time and energy to Board and Finance Working Group activities.

Desirable

  • Experience in the charity or education sector.
  • Prior trustee or non-executive experience.
  • Familiarity with school or major project financial planning.
Time Commitment
  • Four Board meetings per year (mainly online).
  • Monthly meetings with the CEO. Quarterly Finance Working Group meetings.
  • Occasional participation in strategy or working group sessions.
  • Semi-regular payment approvals.
  • Preparation of a brief Treasurer’s Report ahead of each Board meeting.

As we move towards the launch of a school, increased time commitment may be required over a period of several months but this will be communicated well in advance and made as flexible as possible.
