About us

We are looking for an ambitious and highly motivated individual seeking a new and exciting opportunity with the Travel Unit at the City of Wolverhampton Council. The Travel Unit integrates the transport delivery of Adult Social Care, Special Education Needs and Disability (SEND) and Passenger Transport, which provides a vital service to transport vulnerable children and adults with SEND needs across the City of Wolverhampton.

Responsibilities
  • Drive the efficient operation of all internal and contracted Adult Social Care, Education (SEND) travel service to a high standard, whilst maintaining a strong customer focus.
  • Supervise a large team to deliver a robust service.
  • Proactively manage day-to-day operational issues within the Travel Unit.
  • Analyse and performance manage vital data collected by the Travel Unit.
  • Ensure safeguarding is kept as a high priority and mitigated effectively.
  • Maintain sensitivity and consider the complex needs of each individual case.
  • Build and sustain relationships with key stakeholders including parents, schools, and departments across the council.
  • Maintain effective communication with all partners, stakeholders, and employees.
Qualifications
  • Ideal candidate will need to be educated to NVQ 3 level (or appropriate discipline) in travel and transport or have relevant industry experience in fleet dispatch and line management.
Additional information
  • Please note that this is a split shift position, and the post holder will be required to work either morning or afternoon shifts on a rotating basis. Hours will be discussed at interview.

Our working arrangements

All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style. Some roles are agile which enable and empower employees to maximise their performance and productivity, whilst maintaining a healthy work life balance. Roles with a fixed workstyle work in a fixed permanent council location. Roles with a field workstyle are usually allocated where employees are required to be out working in the community with a minimum requirement for touch down space at any council location. Roles with a flexible workstyle have a flexible base location to meet the needs of the business and employees can work from a mixture of home or any council office, partner/client, or external location, as required to meet service requirements.
