Job summary

Strive Supply Chain in Wakefield is seeking an experienced Transport Shift Manager to oversee a busy transport operation on a 4on, 4off schedule (0600hrs–1800hrs).

Reporting to the Transport Manager, you will manage a fleet of ~50 units and 60 drivers, coordinating with warehouse teams to keep loads aligned with the plan and ensuring timely communications of delays to stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a transport role is essential.
• Strong knowledge of transport planning and operations.
• Computer literacy with experience using transport software.
• Understanding of driver hours regulations and working time rules.
• Experience of following HR processes and procedures (disciplinaries, 1-to-1s).
• Good UK geographical knowledge and ability to estimate journey times.
• Transport Manager CPC is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Manage the daily transport plan using relevant software and allocate resources.
• Manage Drivers through debriefs and HR procedures.
• Coordinate with warehouse to align loads with the plan.
• Communicate delays promptly to stakeholders and monitor live loads.
• Audit driver packs and ensure drivers are briefed before departure.
• Monitor transportation schedules and address potential issues proactively.
• Oversee front desk administration and maintain accurate records.
• Interact with customers to resolve queries and maintain relationships.
• Produce detailed shift reports and ensure accurate handovers.
• Complete sickness and absence reports and conduct return-to-work interviews.

Our client is a Global FMCG Distributor and we are delighted to assist them in their search for an experienced Transport professional as they look to recruit a Transport Shift Manager at their site in Wakefield on a 4on, 4off basis (0600hrs - 1800hrs).

Reporting into the Transport Manager, you will be responsible for the day to day running of the busy Transport operation, with a fleet size of c50 units and 60 Drivers. The site operates mainly on a single drop basis, with some multi-drop to select customers.

Key Accountabilities as Transport Shift Manager:

• Manage the daily transport plan using relevant software, ensuring accurate resource allocation.
• Manage Drivers through debriefs and standard HR procedure
• Coordinate with the warehouse to ensure loads are managed in line with the plan.
• Communicate delays promptly to stakeholders and manage live load monitoring.
• Audit driver packs and ensure drivers are fully briefed before departure.
• Monitor transportation schedules and proactively address potential issues.
• Oversee front desk administration and maintain accurate records.
• Interact with customers to resolve queries and maintain strong relationships.
• Produce detailed shift reports and deliver accurate handovers.
• Complete sickness and absence reports, return-to-work interviews, and support investigations.
