Job summary

GXO Logistics, Inc in Northampton is seeking an experienced Transport Shift Manager to lead day-to-day transport operations for a fast-paced environment supporting Wickes. You will manage drivers, ensure safety, compliance, and on-time deliveries while developing the team.

The role is full-time, permanent, working Tuesday to Saturday, 05:00–13:00. The position offers a competitive salary up to £39,216 per annum, with 25 days' annual leave and a company pension.

Qualifications

• Experience in a transport or fleet management role.
• Strong knowledge of transport legislation and drivers’ hours.
• Confident people management and team leadership.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• International CPC qualification is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the transport team while ensuring legal compliance.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement to boost efficiency and cut costs.
• Collaborate with managers/training teams to train staff on procedures and health & safety.
• Handle employee relations actions: disciplinaries, grievances, absenteeism, performance reviews.

Here at GXO, we are currently recruiting for a Transport Shift Manager to join our team in Northampton, supporting our customer Wickes. As a Transport Shift Manager, you will be responsible for the day to day leadership of drivers and transport operations to ensure safe, compliant and high performing service delivery across the contract.

This is a full time, permanent position, predominately working a Tuesday to Saturday, 05:00 till 13:00.

What you’ll do on a typical day:

• Lead and develop the transport team to deliver operational excellence while ensuring legal compliance across all transport activities
• Identify and implement continuous improvement initiative to enhance efficiency and reduce cost
• Work closely with the Transport Managers, Lead Drivers and Driver Trainers to ensure that colleagues and agencies are trained in company procedure, policies and Health and Safety
• Complete employee relations actions, including disciplinaries, grievance, absence management and performance reviews

What you need to succeed at GXO:

• Previous experience in a transport or fleet management role
• Strong knowledge of transport legislation, drivers’ hours and compliance requirements
• Confident people management skills with the ability to lead, engage and challenge teams
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• Holder of an International CPC is advantageous
