Job Title

Junior Transport Planning Technician (Stantec)

Location: Ashford, UK

Overview

As a Junior Transport Planning Technician, you'll play a key role in supporting the Transport Planning team on a daily basis. You'll learn how to prepare technical drawings, modelling, and provide information that will help bring development projects to life. You'll have the opportunity to be involved in numerous projects including Residential and Mixed Use Developments, Commercial Development, Urban Regeneration and Highway Improvements. This is a hands‑on, practical role with plenty of variety. You'll be supported by experienced Transport Planners, engineers and technicians and receive full training and structured development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contributing to technical reports.
  • Analysing the operation of highway junctions.
  • Providing highway design support.
  • Developing spreadsheets.
  • Using CAD tools.
  • Assisting with land development and infrastructure planning.
  • Producing and updating technical drawings, plans and modelling using industry standard software.
  • Assisting with the preparation of technical documents and calculations.
  • Supporting the development of designs for highway access and improvements and sustainable transport strategies.
  • Co‑ordinating Transport Planning information between engineering, environmental and design teams.
  • Ensuring work is completed accurately, on time and meets project and quality standards.
  • Engaging with clients, local authorities and internal project teams as experience grows.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • No industry experience is required; enthusiasm, curiosity and a desire to learn are essential.
  • Must be currently located in Ashford.
  • A keen interest in Transport Planning, infrastructure, design or the built environment.
  • Good problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • A willingness to learn technical software such as Junctions11 and AutoCAD, plus other tools.
  • Strong communication skills and a positive, collaborative attitude.
  • GCSEs, A‑levels, BTEC or equivalent – a variety of educational backgrounds is welcomed.
  • An proactive approach and a desire to grow your career within a supportive team.
  • Self‑motivated, able to work on own initiative.
  • Confident to liaise with all levels of management both internally and externally.
  • Work well within a team.
